The Guardia Civil has arrested a man as the perpetrator of a crime of fraud by appropriating donations for La Palma and sell them in second-hand shops. The value of the recovered amounts to 15.000 Euro, reports the Armed Institute.
“The detainee offered his help to a charity in Tenerife to move to La Palma the household goods and food that he had managed to collect. Posing as a manager of a false solidarity association, the fraudster provided the three containers to load them with all the donations”, explains a note from the Armed Institute.
“After the transport was delayed, the affected association contacted him to find out the reasons for the delay, and received in response a video in which several people were seen performing an unloading and distribution of goods. However, the images were old and did not correspond to any real transfer to the island of La Palma”, details.
The investigators have found that the containers are in the same place where they were filled, in the town of San Isidro.
Civil guards of Granadilla de Abona have carried out several searches authorized by the court of instruction number 4 of that locality.
