By Chris Williams: Trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ MacIntyre is vowing that Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford will be coming back with a vengeance when he returns to the ring on October 23 for his next fight.
It’s not going to help Crawford if he’s bitter about being left out in the cold by the top fighters at 147.
Maybe he would have gotten all the big names that he’s craved all these years if he’d chosen not to re-up with Top Rank when his contract expired twice.
Crawford is expected to be facing 140-lb contender Jose Zepeda next on ESPN in what will be yet another underwhelming opponent for him.
‘BoMac’ seems a little agitated for some reason. Maye it’s because the 33-year-old WBO welterweight champion Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs) recently lost out on a big-money fight that he’s been chasing for ages against Manny Pacquiao.
Instead of Crawford getting the fight against the superstar Pacquiao, his rival IBF/WBC 147lb champion Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence Jr will be the one that faces him.
Crawford’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank says he’d like to match him against undisputed light welterweight champion Josh Taylor, but the Scottish fighter will be facing Jack Catterall next.
Maybe after that fight, Taylor might move up to challenge Crawford for his WBO 147-lb strap if Bud doesn’t get the winner of the Pacquiao vs. Spence fght.
BoMac warning people to watch out for Crawford
“Terence is going to come back with a vengeance and a chip on his shoulder,” said Crawford’s trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ Macintyre to Fighthype.
“I’d like for him to fight you. So all you mother f**** better watch out. Yordenis Ugas would be a great opponent. If he gets put on the chopping block, he must get chopped up. Him and everybody else at 147,” said BoMac.
The boxing public won’t be impressed if Crawford beats up 140-pounder Jose Zepeda (34-2-2, 26 KOs) on October 23. Zepeda has already been beaten by Terry Flanagan and Jose Ramirez.
Crawford can only try and beat Zepeda more impressively than those guys did. In reality, Crawford is being put in a no-win situation by his promoters in that fight.
Even if he obliterates the 32-year-old Zepeda, he won’t receive any credit.
“Oh s***, ‘Mean Machine’ [Egidijus Kavaliauskas] is going to beat the s*** out of Vergil Ortiz. He’ll probably stop him,” BoMac continued. “I’m confident as hell. ‘Mean Machine’ is as tough as s***. That ain’t even a f**** question,” BoMac said when asked about Crawford fighting Vergil Ortiz.
Chris Williams highly doubts ‘Mean Machine’ will beat undefeated Vergil Ortiz Jr (17-0, 17 KOs) because he’s not that kind of talent. Besides Mean Machine losing to Crawford by a knockout, fringe contender Ray Robinson arguably beat him in their fight in March 2019.
That was a fight in which the judges scored it a controversial 10 round draw, but Robinson looked like the clear winner.
Chris Colbert: Crawford is too small for Spence
“I think right now. I think Crawford might be too small for him. And I think Crawford got the skills,” said Chris Colbert to the DAZN Boxing Show and his belief that Spence is too big and too strong for former lightweight champion Terence Crawford.
“I heard Spence is physically strong like he’s really strong. Really strong. Who spread out expenses really strong. So, I think Crawford might be too small I don’t know,” said Colbert.
Chris Williams agrees with interim WBA super featherweight champion Chris Colbert about Crawford being too small for the 5’9 1/2″ Spence (27-0, 21 KOs).
For the boxing fans that may not be aware of this, Crawford started his career out at 135 and fought in that weight class from 2008 to 2015. Crawford moved up to 140 in 2015 and then 147 in 2018.
Unfortunately, Crawford has never fought anyone talented at 140 or 147. These are the guys that Crawford has fought in those two weight classes:

“It’s two ways if I could play out good, I think Crawford definitely got the boxing skills to win,” Colbert continued about Terence fighting Spence.
But I think Crawford is a brave guy sometimes. Alright, he got caught lagging against monster [Egidijus Kavaliauskas] whatever his name was.”
Colbert is talking about how Crawford was shockingly dropped in the fifth round by ‘Mean Machine in their fight in 2019.
