Deontay Wilder staying in the gym, showing improvement for Tyson

By Sean Jones: Deontay Wilder is staying in the gym preparing with his coach Malik Scott for his rescheduled fight against WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury on October 9th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Malik posted a training video of him and Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) working on Friday, and the transformation is incredible. Wilder shows both foot and head movement while gaining his speed & power as he glides around the ring.

Wilder showing improved mobility

In looking at the new video footage, you can argue that Wilder is more mobile than Fury. That might sound surprising to Fury’s boxing fans and Wilder’s critics, but it’s true.

The mobility that Wilder showed in his workout with coach Malik Scott is well beyond what Fury can do and shouldn’t surprise anyone. Fury is a big guy who is slow on his feet.

What Fury does well is moving his upper body and use a lot of feints when coming forward.

The extra three months that Wilder has due to Fury’s illness will help him adjust to his new fighting style. It’s too bad Fury had to go and get sick because he’s given Deontay a huge edge.

Deontay can’t make the same mistakes

Wilder has the delivery system to launch one of his fight-ending right-hand bombs on Fury’s chin in the trilogy.

All Wilder has to do is make sure he doesn’t get caught by any of Fury’s looping shots like he did last time. It would also help that Wilder steer clear of the ropes at all costs because that’s where Fury did his best work.

You hate to guess what Fury (30-1-1, 21 KOs) is doing right now after his quick recovery from COVID-19. If the recent photo of Fury inside a Las Vegas casino is any indication of where his mind is at right now, he’s going to have problems on October 9th.

Fury has less than three months to get ready for this third fight, and it would be a mistake on his part to delay his camp.

There are still many skeptics out there who don’t believe Fury was ever sick with COVID-19, to begin with, and they see it as a case of him taking one for the team.

With the ticket sales for the July 24th fight against Wilder rumored to be abysmal, Fury coming down with a fight-postponing case of COVID-19, it was perfect for bailing himself and his promoters out.
