Y&T is an American hard rock/heavy metal band formed in 1974. They hail from Oakland, California. The band released two studio albums on London Records as Yesterday & Today in the 1970s, before shortening their name to Y&T and releasing several albums on A&M Records beginning in 1981, as well as albums on Geffen Records, Avex Records, and others. The band was originally co-managed by Herbie Herbert (who also managed Journey) and Louis “Lou” Bramy. The band has sold over 4 million albums worldwide to date. Y&T got their name from the Beatles album “Yesterday and Today”. (wiki)
Still touring on their latest album “Facemelter” released in 2010. Y&T rocked The Knitting Factory Concert House in Reno with locals The Max Volume Band on Thursday, August 25, 2011. Over 400 die-hard Y&T fans attended this show, it was Rock & Roll at it’s best.
Today’s line-up features co-founder Dave Meniketti (lead guitar and vocals), John Nymann (guitars), Mike Vanderhule (drums) and Brad Lang (bass) who replaced orignal bassist and co-founder Phil Kennemore who passed away from cancer in January of this year (2011).
The set lasted 2 1/2 hours of pure rock and went something like this,
“On With The Show”, “Black Tiger”, “Afraid Of The Dark”, “Meanstreak”, “Lipstick & Leather”, “Don’t Stop Runnin'”, “Shine On”, “Blind Patroit”, “Winds Of Change”, “Hungry For Rock”, “Dirty Girl”, “Rescue Me”, “Hurricane”, “I Believe”, “Barroon Bogie”, “Summertime Girls”, “Squeeze”, “I’m Coming Home” and three encores, “Midnight In Tokyo”, “Contagious” and “Forever”.
During the encore, Meniketti said how much they really missed Phil and that he was at every show watching from above.
If you missed this show, you really missed a good one. No worries though, Meniketti said, “We’ll be back next year to rock Reno again”.
Opening for Y&T was The Max Volume Band, featuring local Reno radio legend Max Volume from KOZZ “Reno’s Classic Rock” (vocals and guitar), Bill Allen (bass) and Troy Mowat (from 7 seconds fame) on drums.
Their set lasted over 30 minutes and went like this,
“Long Road To Nowhere”, “Mama”, “Free”, “Baby’s Got Ink”, “It’s Alright”, “Hittin’ The Wine”, “The Road to Now”, “Reno, NV.”,”Trollman and “Ring Of Fire”.
