The XFC, which made headlines not long ago after they signed a 2 year deal with Hdnet, will soon be making headlines again as the promotion will be making it’s long awaited return, but this time it won’t be to Tampa or across the seas, but for the first time ever, Orlando, Florida. Orlando has hosted mixed martial arts events in the past including the WEF, Defiant 7, XCF, Cage Warriors, as well as the AFN this coming weekend, but never has had an XFC event until now. The aptly named XFC 14: Resurrection will be held on October 21st at the UCF Arena in Orlando, Florida.
The last time that the XFC hosted an event was on December 3rd of last year as they presented the XFC 13: Unstoppable card at the St. Pete Time’s Forum in Tampa, Florida. XFC 13 was a very exciting night of fights which was headlined with a battle for the XFC Featherweight title between then champion Jarrod Card (12-5-1) and the challenger Luis Palomino (16-7), who also will be seen on September 17th as he battles Edson Berto (16-8-1) in Hollywood, Florida for the Bellator promotion, and a heavyweight battle between #1 ranked Florida Heavyweight Chris Barnett (7-1) and top ranked Florida Heavyweight and BJJ Black Belt, Mario Rinaldi (10-5).
XFC 13 did not disappoint and by the looks of it thus far, XFC 14 may have well been worth the wait, as it already is building up to possibly be one of the most stacked cards in Florida MMA history. The projected main event of the card is a battle between former WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner (17-5-1) and one of Tennessee’s top ranked Lightweights, Nate Jolley (10-3). Three of the other confirmed bouts for the card all look to be very exciting as top ranked Florida Middleweight Reggie Pena (8-5) takes on Josh Clark (5-1), #5 ranked Welterweight Charles Blanchard (9-2) takes on Virginia’s Elijah Harshbargar (6-3), and #2 ranked Middleweight Mike Bernhard will be looking to secure his first win of 2011 against BJJ 2nd degree black belt, Mikey Gomez (11-8). Other confirmed participants for the card include top free agent heavyweight prospect Scott Barrett (12-2), undefeated female prospect Marianna Kheyfets (3-0), and also making his return to the XFC cage will be top ranked Florida Featherweight and 4x XFC veteran, Bruce Connors (8-3).
XFC 14 is about two months out and already has the making of being one of the best cards that has taken place in the state of Florida. The card is filled with some of the best talent that this state has to offer and will certainly showcase some of the most exciting fights that a fan can witness in 2011 in Florida. The card is subject to change, but being two months out there definitely is enough time to add even more exciting fights to this already stacked card. XFC has not had an event in Florida since December of 2010 but it looks like their first card of 2011 is going to be an historic one featuring some of the best fights that have ever taken place in the Sunshine state.
