On August 31, 2011, World Revival Church announced they will host the RESPOND worship conference with leading revivalist worship leaders Roy Fields (Run With Fire, Lakeland Revival), Dustin Smith (worship leader at World Revival Church), Jaye Thomas (worship leader at International House of Prayer Kansas City (IHOP-KC) and Dove award singer Michael Farren. Also hosting the conference will be World Revival Church Senior Pastor Steve Gray. The conference will focus on multiple aspects of worship and will culminate with a concert.
Revivals have always been associated with exuberant praise and worship. Early revivals continually produced what was known as “revival hymns” where praise and worship would usher congregants into a deep time with the Lord. In the book, “Revival” by Martyn Lloyd-Jones, the author speaks about revival in the modern church and states, “We need to realize the presence of the living God amongst us. Let everything else be silent. This is no time for minor differences. We all need to know the touch of the power of the Living God, and let us continue and wait until we know it.
“And then, of course, God does this in order to deliver us from our enemies; enemies without, enemies within. Yes, God did all these things to bring his people out of Egypt, out of the wilderness into the blessed land of Canaan. He does it, I say, in order to lead us to the land of blessing- Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey. What does this mean in the Church? It means that there has never been a revival but that it has led to praise and to thanksgiving, to enjoyment of the riches of God’s grace. The great characteristic of revival is ultimately praise, adoration, worship, full enjoyment, full, unmixed and evermore.”
In the book, “The Azusa Street Revival: When the Fire Fell-An-In-Depth Look at the People, Teachings and Lessons” by Roberts Liardon, he speaks about the characteristics of Pentecostals and states in the chapter, “Who are the Pentecostals?”, “Experience, rather than doctrine, has often been noted as the principal reality and heart of Pentecostalism. Although the Pentecostals are conservative in their theology, they are passionate in their spiritual experiences. The emphasis on the Holy Spirit is essential to Pentecostal reality, and almost all Pentecostal denominations believe that the “initial evidence” of Spirit baptism is the manifestation of glossolalia or what is commonly referred to as “speaking in tongues.” Life within the Pentecostal churches is enhanced by manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit, dynamic worship and evangelistic fervor.”
Worship has become an integral part of revival and many testimonies of healings, salvations and deliverance (as well as supernatural displays of the gifts of the Spirit such as visions, prophecies and baptisms in the Holy Ghost) frequently occur during worship service alone. In recent moves of the Spirit, worship leaders have become just as synonymous with Revival leaders who oversee the service. Lindell Cooley, Roy Fields, Lydia Stanley, Misty Edwards and Dustin Smith are frequently associated with the revivals they led worship for. The site “Healing Herald” frequently shares testimonies by those who say they received healing during times of worship.
The RESPOND worship conference will focus on teaching worshipers how to flow with a worship team as well as the pastor, encourage attendees to write songs, explore flowing prophetically in worship and discuss having an attitude of worship.
