A website was launched in 2007, asking viewers to predict Amy Winehouse’s date of death. The site promised to crown the winner as Mr. or Mrs. Death and award the winner with an iPod Touch.
E! NEWS reports that the site released a statement two days after Winehouse’s death saying:
“Since we launched this site we’ve had hundreds of thousands of hits, 237 hate mails telling us we’re the devil in disguise and 96,026 people who left their predictions. Out of all those entries only 4 were correct. The first person to do so did it on December 21st 2007 and we’ve called her the winner of the iPod Touch. We will be contacting her via email.”
The winner’s name was not released.
On the day of Winehouse’s death, the website posted, “Amy Winehouse has passed away. Let’s hope her demise is an example for young people in how not to deal with your problems. May she Rest In Peace and her music live on.”
Marla Romsten of Newark said, “This website makes me sick. I just hope Amy finds the peace she needs, and that people like this realize how disgusting they really are.”
Amy Winehouse was found dead in her home on July 23. Results from her autopsy and toxicology reports are still pending, however police officers and officials are saying to not jump to conclusions that the troubled singer died from an overdose.
