CANANDAIGUA, NY — Consumers won’t have to wait long to try the top wines from this year’s 25th annual New York Wine & Food Classic competition.
“Celebrate the Classic” has been scheduled for Friday, August 26 at the New York Wine & Culinary Center here, just 10 days after the judging.
The Governor’s Cup winner for best wine of the competition, top selections from ‘Winery of the Year’ and Double Gold and Gold medal wines will be presented by the winemakers and available for purchase on the spot at the Center, which will be stocking up for its month-long “New York Gold” promotion in October, spinning off of the Classic. A private tasting for media and trade will take place from 3 to 4 p.m., with general attendance from 4 to 7 p.m.
“The New York Wine & Food Classic is known as the Oscars of the New York wine industry, and this event will give consumers a chance to taste the best of the best,” said Jim Trezise, president of the New York Wine & Grape Foundation which sponsors the Classic. “Many of the wines entered in our competition have won Gold medals at major international competitions around the world, so this is the ultimate test.”
Complementing the wines will be recipes by chefs from the region using local ingredients in dishes specifically created to marry with the top wines. Confirmed chefs include Carlo Peretti of the New York Wine & Culinary Center, and Samantha Buyskes of Simply Red Bistro.
Admission to “Celebrate the Classic” is $35 per person, $60 for two, with ticket sales online.
