The Sedgwick County Commissioners voted to let people with a concealed carry permit to enter most county facilities. According to The Wichita Eagle, that includes 10 fire stations, three EMS posts, all tag offices, the Kansas Pavilions and the Extension Education Center.
My question now is why? I’ve learned to live with conceal and carry permits. I never thought it was a wise idea, but if people feel that paranoid that they must carry a concealed gun, I guess they can.
But why do they need them in a fire station? Why in a car tag office. How many people have been robbed, mugged or raped while standing in line for a tag? I can’t think of any cases of that off hand. Do muggers and robbers hang out in the Extension Education Center? I haven’t heard of that too much. There are those who argue that they need protection from deranged students who go on a shooting rampages. In other places, I haven’t heard of too many deranged people getting stopped by concealed guns when that happens outside in a public area.
The vote was four to one. Some people argued they didn’t want to leave guns in their car where they can get stolen. Can’t they put them in their trunks? I don’t know of that many cases where someone broke into a trunk (it’s not that easy for most crooks) to get some one’s gun.
It seems to me that the people who wanted that passed are either very lazy people who don’t want to be bothered locking their guns in their car to go in certain places of business or it is pushed by people who have an extreme obsession with criminals attacking them. The crime rate has been going down over the last few decades so people who are so insecure they need guns in a tag office really shouldn’t even have guns. Such people are as dangerous as the criminals who carry guns.
