So here are some tips for those of us not ready, but we must embrace this new school year.
1) Get a regular bedtime routine going. Yes I know this makes sense but when I think about I can actually do it and not have chaos. I don’t like it when I start rushing my child and hurrying them along because I’ve waited until the last minute…so I try to start bath/shower somewhere around 7:30. Then no rushing and we can watch one episode of Sponge Bob, or fill in the blank with what your child likes, while we have a snack. Bedtime snack is important and if I coordinate it with a little TV it can’t be used as a stall tactic. (Yes my child is great at stall tactics! She will even want to watch all the commercials and the intro to the next show before we can turn off the TV!)
2) Then bathroom duties and teeth brushing time and flossing-which still doesn’t go over well in my house, but maybe this year if I try to be consistent then it will work?? I even made a sign to hang in the bathroom to remind us to floss! If I could just find where I put it I could hang it up!
3) Story time is next. Which at times takes forever because my child can’t seem to pick out a story. So this year I am going to try, her turn, my turn. So at least on the nights I get to pick it won’t take 20 minutes to find the right one.
4) Next we have hugs and kisses and prayers along with tucking in and then more hugs and kisses and hopefully we are all still calm and lights out by 8:45 ish?? Okay, probably 9, but I am hoping to get this routine down before Halloween!
I hope this gets you to thinking, but maybe you are all ready organized and have a routine down? This is helpful for me, now I just need to put it into practice! Please share your ideas with me, and what works best for you! I would love to hear from you. Here’s to the best school year ever and being consistent!
