What to watch on television July 4: Macy’s fireworks, Capitol Fourth and Pops

The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate America’s freedom and Independence and as countless across the nation enjoy barbecues, fireworks and get-togethers with friends and family members, there are many who will find their Fourth of July spent indoors. Whether due to weather, illness or you would simply rather stay in instead of venturing out, there are some great programs on television this July 4, 2011 for Tampa Bay viewers to enjoy.
A Capitol Fourth: PBS
9:30-11:00 pm (replay)
Beginning at 8:00 pm, ET on PBS (Tampa Bay’s WEDU), viewers can enjoy the special fireworks and music display from the U.S. capitol “A Capitol Fourth.” Filmed live from the West Lawn, “A Capitol Fourth” is hosted by Jimmy Smits and includes an all star lineup of talented musicians including Steve Martin, the Steep Canyon Rangers, Josh Groban, Matthew Morrison (Glee), Jordin Sparks, Little Richard, Million Dollar Quartet, Kelli O’Hara, the National Symphony Orchestra with conductor Jack Everly. “Citizen USA: A 50 State Road Trip” HBO
Those with cable programming can take a road trip under the direction of Alexandra Pelosi as she visits naturalization ceremonies across the nation and visits each of the 50 states. Pelosi has a firsthand view of naturalization as her Dutch born husband underwent the process, thus inspiring the documentary that showcases the ceremonies conducted held across the U.S.A.
“Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular 2011” (NBC)
With a fabulous fireworks display and an all star lineup of celebrities and musical performances, it’s no wonder why the NBC special “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” continues to be a television staple in Tampa Bay year after year. This year’s host is Nick Lachey and special musical guests include Beyonce, Brad Paisley, Jennifer Hudson, James Taylor and Katy Perry.
“Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular” (CBS)
Combining fireworks with the beautiful sounds of the Boston Pops, the July 3, 2011 special is hosted by Michael Chiklis and features special guest Martina McBride. The fireworks begin at 10:30 pm
With the full line up on television, Tampa Bay residents who are staying in due to storms can find plenty of excitement to celebrate our nation’s 235th birthday with pop, glamour and spectacular fireworks displays.
