Previously: Nancy eliminated Zoya and Foster Klein. Shane’s intel got him busted. Silas slept with the enemy. Andy despaired at the fortunes of his bike store.
Silas offers meek mea culpas to Andy and Nancy for letting Emma turn their lives upside down. There’s a lot of crosstalk in the three-way conversation that opens the episode. Andy’s despondence is clear as he admits the Pouncy House team took everything, from the phone number to the Copenhagen Wheels. Silas vows to fix everything.
He plans a straightforward approach, and even brings a depressed Andy along for a change of scenery. Their confrontation takes place on the street, and when Emma’s “just business” excuses don’t meet Andy’s satisfaction, the uncle takes her hostage at nail gunpoint.
Andy is very “meaning of life” about his predicament, and he’s the first of three Botwins to monologue at Emma during her captivity. Why can’t Andy succeed on legitimate terms, he wonders. Nancy just wants to call Emma a whore, but it takes one to know one.
Silas is willing to compromise with Emma, right after he invokes the Botwin body count (at least half a dozen, right?). They agree to a business arrangement, since Emma has the better infrastructure and Silas has the better product.
Doug’s SEC storyline has been inexorably integrated into this season, despite Nancy’s absentee status as an employee and last week’s pension-touting showdown. Now Doug will spar with a matronly auditor sent to ensure that the SEC’s retirement investments are being suitably managed. They will likely have sex in one of the next two episodes.
Nancy’s Handling It tour takes her first to Demitri’s, where Zoya’s brother is celebrating her sudden exodus. He has some bonus product for Nancy, and he needs his cut now, so he’s giving her 24 hours to straighten things out before he calls in his own muscle.
Next, she is summoned to the crusty detective’s office, where the two commiserate about parenting challenges. There, she manages to deflect suspicion of off Shane, seeing an opportunity to tie Emma/Pouncy House to the Botwins through Silas’s romantic dalliance.
The plan is for the police to make a bust at Pouncy House, and Nancy is to ensure that Silas is not there when it goes down. Shane and Nancy have a nice exchange about prison life when she busts him out, heading off to wait for her plan to come into fruition.
“I’ve solved our problem,” she tells Demitri on his doorstep. “I’ve solved our problem,” says Silas to Nancy’s voicemail as he consorts with the Pouncy House crew.
In two weeks (Happy Labor Day): Emma waffles, the Botwins do an obligatory Hamptons episode, and the detective gets his girl.
