Brett Ratner isn’t exactly what you would call someone’s idea of a great director (see X-Men: The Last Stand). However, with his Rush Hour series (at least the first two) the director seemed to have found his niche with the action-comedy genre. Well Albany, it looks like the director has returned to the area that he knows best and he’s brought Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy along with him in Tower Heist. Joining Stiller and Murphy to round out a pretty good cast are Academy Award nominated Alan Alda (M*A*S*H, 30 Rock), Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Casey Affleck (Ocean’s Eleven, Gone Baby Gone), Tea Leoni (Bad Boys, Spanglish) and Michael Peña (Battle: Los Angeles, the upcoming Gangster Squad). With such a talented cast, will this film actually be funny? See for yourself Albany.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
” Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy lead an all-star cast in Tower Heist, a comedy caper about working stiffs who seek revenge on the Wall Street swindler who stiffed them. After the workers at a luxury Central Park condominium discover the penthouse billionaire has stolen their retirement, they plot the ultimate revenge: a heist to reclaim what he took from them.
Queens native Josh Kovacs (Stiller) has managed one of the most luxurious and well-secured residences in New York City for more than a decade. Under his watchful eye, nothing goes undetected. In the swankiest unit atop Josh’s building, Wall Street titan Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) is under house arrest after being caught stealing two billion from his investors. The hardest hit among those he defrauded? The tower staffers whose pensions he was entrusted to manage.
With only days before Arthur gets away with the perfect crime, Josh’s crew turns to petty crook Slide (Murphy) to plan the nearly impossible…to steal what they are sure is hidden in Arthur’s guarded condo. Though amateurs, these rookie thieves know the building better than anyone. Turns out they’ve been casing the place for years, they just didn’t know it.”
I’m not entirely sure why, but I actually want to see this film. Maybe it’s the due to the film looking like a hybrid of Horrible Bosses meets Ocean’s Eleven or that with such a talented cast, there’s no way this could be bad. The one very noticeable thing about this trailer that may be alarming however, is the fact that the funniest moments didn’t come from either Stiller or Murphy. Murphy was involved in the funniest part of the trailer at the end but he wasn’t what made it funny. This could end up being a film where the supporting cast steals the show but I’m hoping that this one will be an all around enjoyable film. What do you guys think Albany?
Tower Heist hits Albany theaters later on this year on November 4th.
