Choosing an online special for a spa treatment is a bit like dating—they all look great at first, then you try to dig a little deeper and realize you were so excited by the prospect that you were blinded by your own excitement. “Too good to be true” is a popular saying for a reason. My reason for disappointment with this special lay not with the online coupon I purchased but rather with the services at Vada Spa itself. My preliminary research online gave me mixed reviews, some raving about the services and some pretty scathing. I decided to just go for it, hoping I’d be one of the lucky ones singing Vada Spa’s praises in the future. The process of making an appointment and ensuring I could use the coupon immediately went seamlessly. My online special purchase included a manicure and pedicure, bikini wax, full leg wax, and a promise of a glass of wine which for some reason really had me sold. When I arrived at the salon, I was asked to wait for about five minutes which I did not mind, especially since I saw glasses of wine being poured for those waiting. Putting aside my surprise that they were in small clear plastic disposable cups, I patiently waited to be offered a glass. This never happened and then I was whisked away to the waxing room. I really could’ve used that glass of wine before what was about to commence. Since I have had waxing done in the past on a few occasions, I was prepared for lots of pain with the promise of being rewarded with smooth hairless legs and other regions. I will spare the gruesome details of the bikini wax here, but in summary it was not an experience I would ever put myself through again at this particular spa. First there was a miscommunication about what type of waxing my online special included, which was not cleared up. The wax was too hot, not completely removed, and the experience was not made any better by the waxer whose own expertise I questioned. Let me take a moment to say that the service I received was friendly and professional for the most part. It was just the actual waxing that was not what I’d hoped for. As for the leg wax, I left with half of the hair still on my legs, splotches that appeared burnt by wax that seemed way hotter than it should have been and also a residue of wax whose removal was attempted for a brief period of time but then given up on. The manicure and pedicure were uneventful, or maybe my body was in shock from the waxing. From what I recall I received a mediocre mani/pedi which was on the level of my local nail salon. If I was in the neighborhood and they had a good special I would not hesitate to go back for this service at Vada Spa, after insisting on a glass of wine in the plastic cup.
