With the last leg of the tour in the horizon, “The American Idol” top 11 finalist has made a major impact on the cities and the venues they have played so far. The tour kicked off July 6, 2011 in West Valley, Utah and has since made their way through the West Coast, Mid-West, Gulf Coast, and now working their way along the East Coast. Their last show will be September 10th, in Rochester, NY at the Blue Cross Arena.
The success of this years tour is a welcoming turn of events, considering that last years Summer Tour lost several venues due to the economy. This year, they Idols played in sold out arenas including the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, and Ontario, California’s Citizen Business Bank Arena. The Ontario stop was the homecoming show for finalist Casey Abrams. According to www.inlandsocial.com, General Manager Steve Eckerson said the show was been sold out for three weeks, and that report was made on July 15, that was only 9 days into the tour. According to Myidol.americanidol.com’s public forum, Raleigh, NC the homecoming stop for winner Scotty McCreery was sold out along with Charlotte, Dallas- Ft. Worth, and Atlanta. The Atlanta stop was the homecoming who for Lauren Alaina, who stated during and interview before her show in Nashville, “This is actually my second homecoming stop because I only live and hour and a half away from Nashville and about two hours from Atlanta.”. This interview was during a press conference before the show started. The Concert in Nashville only had four seats left according to the clerk at Will Call. The Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, is one of the biggest indoor venues in Nasvhille and can seat up to 20,000 people. It was also the very first time the Idols have come to Nashville on their summer tour. Not only was this a second homecoming stop for Lauren Alaina, it was also where she auditioned and the homecoming stop for finalist Paul McDonald who is originally from Huntsville, Alabama.
Another first time stop on the “American Idol” Summer Tour was right here on the Gulf Coast in New Orleans, at the UNO Lake Front Arena on July 22. Last summer the Gulf Coast was primarily left out of the Summer tour, except for a couple of stops in Florida and a couple in Texas. Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana was left out completely. It was a welcoming sight to “American Idol” lovers on this end of the Gulf Coast to finally meet and see their favorite idol perform live.
With the tour drawing to a close, Scotty and Lauren both are working on their albums. They are both signed with Mercury Nashville/19 Entertainment/Interscope. They both recently released their video’s from their coronation songs, Scotty’s “I love You This Big” is currently standing at number 2 on GAC Top 20 Countdown, and is also ranked number 19 on CMT’s Top 20 Countdown. Lauren’s “Like My Mother Does” is at number 5 on the GAC Top 20 Countdown. Scotty’s album Clear As Day, is set to drop October 4, 2011 and Lauren Alaina’s album Wildflower is set to drop the following week. With 10 more dates left on the Tour, the idols are currently in Rhode Island working the east coast. On Tuesday August 19, the Day of the East Coast Earthquake, the Idols preformed at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island. James Durbin tweeted that he was on the 12th floor of an unspecified building in the heart of Times Square when the Earthquake hit the East Coast on Tuesday.
