The total number of union workers in the entire workforce in the United States is a mere 11.9% according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Only 6.9% are in the private sector while a whopping 36.2% can be found in the public sector. If over 84% of the United States workforce population is not unionized, why is it that we allow unions to bully us? Clearly unions aren’t a positive if only 12% are unionized. If unions were such a great aspect of a working environment, more workers would be demanding to be unionized but they are not. Union membership has continually decreased for years other than in the public sector.
As a nation, we are continually being bullied by unions, especially union thugs like Trumka, White House advisor and head of the AFL-CIO and former SEIU head Andy Stern (also a White House advisor or former advisor). Why? They do not represent a majority of workers in the country. They certainly don’t represent or stand for working families in this country. Yet we are continually lambasted with negative ads and lies regarding Right-to-Work legislation and how wonderful public sector employees are to we, the people, despite the fact that public sector employees get paid more than their private sector counterparts, get massive and excessive benefits that no one in the private sector receives and frankly don’t always do such a great job (see our public education system and how bad it’s failing our kids despite the fact we spend billions per year on it). The New Hampshire legislature passed Right-to-Work legislation with an overwhelming majority – of course Democrat Governor Lynch vetoed it – but why are House Republicans allowing unions to bully them so they do not pass it again with a veto-proof majority. There are more non-union workers in New Hampshire than not – just WHO are our Representatives representing?
One possibility is that unions buy and pay for Democrats in every election and have for years. Unions actually sit on the DNC platform party and help make up what the platform will be for elections. So unions buy Democrats who then turn around and pay unions back by giving them their excessive benefits and giving in to their demands. Even though unions still represent a very small majority compared to the rest of their constituents – to Democrat politicians it’s all about the money and the manpower. Unions use millions of dollars of union members’ dues for politicking (even though there are laws against this) and have been sued by members in the past for it yet it’s a well-known practice that continues. The NEA (National Educators Association) union just voted to take $10 more from every teacher in order to build its politicking coffers to $32 million for the 2012 elections. That $32 million is just a one union’s contribution – unions will most likely spend well over $100 million on the Presidential election alone.
Paid activists are another reason we seem to allow unions to bully us. Do you really think all of the people who helped trash the Wisconsin Capitol building were doing that for free? Not really. Unions pay their members to attend protests, make phone calls and push the union agenda via social media all the time. These paid activists aren’t your friendly Tea Party types – they are in-your-face, sometimes violent, often vile and refuse to allow others to speak their beliefs. This alone has the opposition often afraid to exercise their 1stAmendment right because most people who are not progressives are not violent, vicious or confrontational. Is it fear that has kept people quiet about the bullying unions? Fear is definitely the reason many union members do not speak up but that’s a completely different aspect of the tangled web of union bullying.
The bottom line is that unions make up only 12% of the entire workforce in the United States. 14.7 million workers out of a Census Bureau estimate of 154.5 million total workers are union members. It’s high time the 139 million workers that are not union stop allowing the unions to bully us. Trumka can repeat his B.S. that unions are for the working and middle class over and over again but he’s lying. Unions are for unions only and not even for their members – they are purely just a political machine now using forced dues collection to bank roll their power grabs and far left wing agenda pushes in politics. Unions bully union members and unions bully the rest of the country. It’s long past due that ‘workers unite – against unions’.
