A flaming UFO that fell from the sky in Cuzco, Peru is getting some major attention today. The fireball was spotted near the Andes mountains in Peru on August 25, 2011 around 2:00 in the afternoon. At least one lucky observer was able to capture the amazing sight on video.
News reports from Sky News in the United Kingdom initially called the flaming object a UFO. Later reports called it a falling meteor, but which was it? The first report, which you can view on the left side of this page, made the following claim:
“Residents of the capital of the Inca Empire were surprised to see the object shooting across the horizon at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Officials are still trying to determine where the object may have landed.
It would be great to see what that actually is when they get up to it.”
A later report, also from Sky News, claimed the object was nothing more than a “suspected” meteor. However, some of the readers of Sky News aren’t fans of their latest explanation. One reader commented:
“This is way too slow for a meteorite! and with 2 distinctive trails both showing characteristics similar to that of an aircraft’s vapour trails ….. I’d say it WAS an aircraft ! The redness in the trail is probably caused by the light from a very low sun or sunset perhaps.”
While another said:
“Its clearly not a meteor. As an amatuer Astronomer i watch meteor showers every year and mostly they travel so fast (1000s of mph) you will be lucky to catch a glimpse of one. This is moving so slow it cant possibly be one. you can even you tube meteors caught on camera and they are in the sky barely 3 seconds at best.”
So, what was the UFO captured on video on a sunny afternoon in Peru? The object’s final resting place has not been found, so its identity may remain a mystery for now.
