A lot of couples decide to stick to the tradition of waiting to see one another until the bride makes her way down the aisle. And as precious as that moment may be, Teri Pozniak, professional wedding photographer and owner of tPoz Photography, said she recommends to her clients to do an intimate first look.
“I absolutely love when a bride and groom choose to do a first look and see each other before the ceremony,” she said. “It is truly an intimate moment carved out for just the two of them, before the hubbub of the day begins, and usually the only changes for ‘alone time’ during the whole day. To see each other up close – not focused on walking down the aisle, guests or details, for the groom to be able to spin his bride around to get a good look at her in all of her glory, and for the couple to focus on the gravity of the moment.”
In the professional wedding photo biz for about 2½ years, Pozniak said she primarily focuses on clients in the Baltimore and Annapolis areas, but she is more than willing to travel, especially for destination weddings. Currently, she said she’s averaging about 25 weddings a year and books fast in the peak wedding season.
Pozniak said some of her favorite places to shoot are all around Baltimore and she loves when couples allot the time to travel to different locations that mean something to them for their engagement pictures and wedding photos.
“I love when couples choose locations or activities that reflect their personalities or relationships,” she said. “Pumpkin picking at North Run Farm, tossing the football on their high school field or a wine picnic in a field!”
It’s all about the style …
Full of passion and enthusiasm, Pozniak said her style is photojournalistic wedding photography with a splash of stylized fashion and that she tends fit in best with couples that match her bubbly personality.
“I get butterflies right before the bride sees her groom for the first time,” Pozniak said. “If the groom cries, I cry. I get choked up during the toasts. And you will positively find me eye to the viewfinder, finger on the shutter, and shakin my booty while shooting on the dance floor. I just can’t help it!”

It’s all about the cost …
Pozniak offers a variety of packages ranging in price from $2,200 – $4,000 and she typically shoots between 1,500 – 2,000 frames during a wedding, guaranteeing to deliver a minimum of 50 images per hour of coverage. For complete details of tPoz Photography’s wedding packages, click here.
Also popular for engagement sessions, Pozniak said she enjoys doing the sessions with all her couples for a fee of $200 with prints and digital images sold a la carte.
“I prefer to do an engagement session for all of my brides, as it allows us the opportunity to get comfortable with each other and the chance for the bride and groom to have a really nice picture of themselves, other than the wedding day,” she said.
Pozniak recommends couples set up a complimentary consultation with her to discuss their wedding plans and recommends brides do the research to find the right match for them.
“You will want to see that their style is similar to your own, and that your personalities click! During your consultation, be yourself and you will get a feel for the photographers personality,” she said. “As unobtrusive as they may be, your photographer will be around you all day on your wedding day. You want to be comfortable having them around you ALL. DAY. LONG. Being a mutual match is extremely important. I tend to laugh a lot and joke with the bridal party to keep things fun and light – so I might not be the best match for a more reserved and quiet couple.”
