Torchwood: Miracle Day on Starz fourth episode aired on July 29th and the two Americans now part of Torchwood still don’t seem to get what the institute is all about, that there is something more going on than their personal issues. While Gwen still interacts with Rhys, he at least understands the stakes, even as a civilian.
Esther visits her sister who is not a stable person. After seeing the state she is in, Esther calls child protective services.
A new voice is speaking out in a new campaign called Dead is Dead, putting Oswald Danes on the defensive.
Dr. Juarez with several other hospital representatives, tours an old hospital where it will be used to house the old and the infirm.
The Torchwood team is housed on the west coast. They are there to break into PhiCorp, which they do until part of their plan is compromised.
I have to say that I thought last week Esther could not be more stupid by trying to input her sister’s number in her new cell phone, but she topped it big time in this episode. She went to see her sister, even though Rex told her not to. She basically allowed the bad guys to find them. I hate her as a character because all she is doing is creating a mess instead of solving the real issue as to what is PhiCorp and how they and Miracle Day are connected. I also could not blame Rex for yelling at her, because it is her fault.
With the new campaign Dead is Dead rearing its ugly head, Rex is not quite sure what to believe. Is he truly dead? He tries to see his father, but that situation did not work out quite right, especially as we find out that his father is not the loving the type. It also appears that Rex is not the loving son, and this could be why he is such a colossal butt when it comes to dealing with Esther or the team in general.
Captain Jack is the obvious smart one, because while everyone else thinks that it is a waste of time to track Oswald Danes, Jack knows that he is connected, like PhiCorp is connected, which all revolves around Miracle Day.
Jilly for all of her ways, tells Oswald that while she can help him succeed, which in turns helps him succeed, she can’t stand to look at him or his hands. This almost makes you like Jilly, except that she is so smarmy with helping a convicted killer that her brief humanity is swallowed up.
I have to say that Gwen’s American accent was not only clichéd, but also horribly funny, which is probably how an American sounds when attempting a British accent.
C. Thomas Howell’s character is a cold, calculating killer, who has been contracted to go after Torchwood and kill Jack Harkness. He goes after them and before he attempts to shoot Gwen in the head, he talks to them. He wants to know why Jack is so important and while they talk, Rex is on his way to the rescue, and when he finally comes into the room, Rex shoots him before he can give a name as to who is possibly behind who is trying to kill Jack.
Overall this episode is by far the best. There is a lot going on. The woman who has the Dead is Dead campaign seems to have imparted some vital clues as to what is going on with the Miracle, as she is taken away and crushed in a car. And the cryptic remark “And soon the families will rise”, what does that mean? She is taken out of the limelight in a harsh way. Oswald Danes gets his mojo back by being his charismatic self. Going into that hospital, the one where all the sick and elderly have been housed and abandoned, he makes a point to show off that he is not afraid. Then there is the point when Jack and his team find out that PhiCorp has overflow camps (which almost sounds like internment camps) which they have been building and where all the sick are going to be housed.
For those not watching, then you are all missing something truly diabolical being presented here, because the alien element is now more than evident, or at least it seems so to me.
What do you think so far?
Torchwood: Miracle Day stars: John Brarrowman, Eve Myles, Mekhi Phifer, and Bill Pullman. One day nobody dies, thus setting off a chain of events that pits the remaining Torchwood crew with America’s CIA to get to the bottom of this issue.
