Though The Hunger Games teaser-trailer may have had less footage than some fans had hoped for, this brief glimpse into the movie actually offers a lot to digest. Here’s a look at the top 5 moments from The Hunger Games teaser-trailer:
The end of the trailer reveals this hashtag, linking to the website TheCapitol.pn — a new viral marketing campaign for The Hunger Games movie. So far, it’s a mystery what exactly this site will entail, but needless to say, fans are intrigued. And if you checked the site yesterday, check it again today. The mysterious, pixelated imagery is becoming clearer — and it appears to very much resemble the emblem of the Capitol itself. I think it’s safe to say more will be revealed soon!
4. The Music
Often, movie trailers and teaser-trailers do not include music from the film itself — but rather, music that at least fits the mood of the film. There are actually companies that create music specifically for use in trailers and previews. But in this case, I have a feeling The Hunger Games music may have actually been created for the film itself.
The tune featured in The Hunger Games teaser-trailer is the same music heard in the animation that unveiled the official movie poster earlier this summer. Plus, the final four notes of music have been confirmed as being Rue’s four-note tune (which you can download for free on iTunes). If the music featured in The Hunger Games teaser-trailer is, indeed, a snippet of what we can expect from the joint venture between composers Danny Elfman and T. Bone Burnett, than I am even more excited to hear their complete score.
One of the most pulse-pounding moments in The Hunger Games book is when fire erupts in the arena, sending Katniss on the run. From the brief clips witnessed in the teaser-trailer, it looks like this scene will be just as exhilarating (if not more so) in the movie. The fire looks amazing, and the emotions that flash across Jennifer Lawrence’s face as Katniss in the teaser-trailer already shows her stellar acting skills.
2. Gale’s Voiceover
Though we don’t see any characters besides Katniss in the teaser-trailer, we do get to hear Gale. Already, I feel so much better about Liam Hemsworth’s casting, having simply heard his voice. The inflections and intonations in his voice during that simple dialogue embody Gale’s persona. His words, too, give meaning to the actions reflected in the teaser-trailer’s video. Katniss is strong, and she’s going to prove it — just like Gale told her to. As Gary Ross said in his commentary, it also shows that while Gale’s physical presense may be limited in The Hunger Games, he is very much present in Katniss’s mind.
1. Katniss in Action
By far, the most thrilling aspect of The Hunger Games teaser-trailer is seeing Katniss in action. Sure, we’ve seen her physical transformation before in the photos released from the movie — but the footage from the teaser-trailer is entirely different from the still images. Here we see Katniss trekking through the woods, her eyes darting at the slightest movement, leaping over a fallen log, and — best of all — firing her bow. It’s in that final moment, when she let’s loose with the arrow, that we really see Katniss embody all the bad-assness of her character.
