It’s easy to leave New York to come down to Florida, I-95 South, no brainer. What’s more difficult for New Yorkers to do, is to leave New York, in…well…New York. Their answer arrived in 1981 with TooJay’s Gourmet Deli–so you, with the mouth, shush, don’t get fresh with me, TooJay’s is here, it’s been here, for a while. You want the pickle on the side, done. You want some Dr. Brown’s Celery soda, done. You want your New York friend to shut his trap, “They don’t make it like they do in New…hey, this is pretty good, this TooJay’s.” For those in the Central Florida Kosher crowd, they know this; but for anyone who doesn’t want to take the flight north, stop by TooJay’s for some of the authentic flavor of the Lower East Side. Smoked nova, kippered salmon, whitefish, onion, poppy, rye, yum! The bagel itself was just fair, not stellar. The Nova was more than okay, phenomenal. I wanted a touch more cream cheese, capers that never made it, and more cream cheese please. Again, the Nova, was ridiculous. Aye, you, with face and that attitude, go to TooJay’s, and shut up about New York, it’s here.
