Since 2008, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has led the efforts to ensure the contribution, history and sound of gospel music are recognized and honored throughout the nation. Congresswoman Lee has passed resolutions for the past three years designating the month of September as Gospel Music Heritage Month.
This year the premiere event will be held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Grammy Award-winning artist Kirk Franklin will be joined by gospel great Richard Smallwood and Marvin Sapp, both multiple award-winners. Radio One CEO Cathy Hughes and gospel music legend Dr. Bobby Jones will be honored during the evening’s festivities as well.
