After three days of play at the $160,000 Long Beach Open, Stephen Hale of Bakersfield has taken the lead. Hale, who opened the tournament with rounds of 66 and 68, posted a 68 in the third round to take a two shot lead. Trailing behind him are Kenny Kim, Garrett Sapp, Ryan Dillon, Eric Meichtry, and Brian Locke. Kim, who will join Hale in the final group Sunday, made the biggest move of the day posting a third round 65.
36 hole leaders Brian Locke and Nate Williams struggled in the 3rdround. Locke posted a 71, falling two off the pace going into Sunday. Williams, who posted a 64 in the 2ndround, shot a third round 75, falling into a tie for 16th. Xander Schauffele of San Diego took over the low amateur spot. Schauffele tied for the best round of the day posting a seven under 65, moving him into a tie for 11thoverall. The final round of the Long Beach Open will take place Sunday at El Dorado Golf Course.
