Woolf Farms, located in Columbiana County, has fresh Ohio peaches! That means those fuzzy, round, sweet tasting pieces of fruit are available for you and your family. You can eat them, bake with them, or make ice cream with them – the list of possibilities is endless.
These beauties are just now starting to ripen, so don’t worry, they will be available at your local North union farmers markets. There are several locations and numerous days to choose from. Geauga Fresh Farmers Markets are another location where you can find those juicy pieces of fruit too.
Blueberries are still available around Northeast Ohio until about the first of August, depending on the county and the weather. So, I’m thinking that with both of these fruits available, you could make some pretty awesome confections using both fruits together. Like Blueberry peach cobbler, or yummy Peach Blueberry Cake, or Blueberry-Peach muffins.
I’ve been on the road since July 16, and landed in Parshall, Colorado. Peaches and blueberries — along with other fresh-picked produce — are brought in weekly from the Grand Junction area for Granby’s farmers market.
We had a fresh blueberry and peach crisp the other night. Wow! It was an absolutely mouth-watering slice of extraordinary delicacy. The peaches and blueberries melded together to make a juicy, sweet- tasting confection. The crumb crust and topping were added bonuses.
The beverage of choice that evening was SEA DOG BREWING CO. Wild Paw Blueberry Wheat Ale, which is brewed and bottled by Pugsley Brewing LLC in Portland, ME. I must say, it is an excellent brew. The very moment the bottle cap popped off, the sweet, pungent smell of fresh blueberries encamped your nostrils just awaiting the fruity beer palate.
So, as you can see, whether you’re in Ohio or on the road traveling across to the Midwest, blueberries, peaches and excellent microbrews are available for picking or purchasing.
It’s the start of canning season, so I hope you home canners are gearing up with all of the luscious, sweet-tasting fruits available.
