Anne Sinclair, the woman who has proclaimed to be a feminist and worked for decades as a powerful political journalist, is the wife of Dominique Strauss-Kahn (DSK), the former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief.
DSK has been linked to numerous sexual indiscretions and scandals, but Sinclair has stood by him. She has fought hard to have him cleared of all charges and allegations, including allegations of financial misconduct when DSK was Minister of Finance.
Anne Sinclair’s power and intelligence have been widely acknowledged. Sinclair is reportedly more powerful and wealthier than her husband, DSK, who has again recently been the center of controversial charges. This time it involved the alleged sexual assault of a maid at a New York City hotel.
Sinclair’s grandfather was the famous art dealer, Paul Rosenberg, who represented Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Georges Braque. She is the heiress to the majority of her grandfather’s fortune. Sinclair invested heavily in DSK’s political ambitions, contributing substantial monies to his campaign and sacrificing her own career along the line.
When the allegations of sexual assault first surfaced in May, the ink was barely dry before Sinclair made a public statement, once again, in support of her husband. During the brief public statement, she unreservedly raised questions about the woman who had brought charges against DSK.
“I do not doubt for a second that my husband did not do it. His innocence will be proven,” announced Sinclair. This was not the first time that Sinclair has come to her husband’s defense. In 2006 when she was on the campaign trail and sexual allegations against DSK surfaced, Sinclair’s words were deliberately selected. She said she was “rather proud of his reputation”, adding, “It is important for a politician to be able to seduce.”
In 2008 DSK faced yet another scandal of sexual encounters with a colleague who quickly resigned. IMF paid her a large sum after her resignation. In a statement released at the time, Sinclair’s typical stance was apparent, as she proceeded to remind the public that the IMF started an internal investigation.
The public has become more aware of DSK’s antics as more women have come forward with their own tales and an outcry for justice. The public has also observed Sinclair’s consistent stance to support her husband. The question that lingers about Sinclair is why?
Why would a women who was once a powerful figure in her own right, ditch it to protect a man who evidently cannot be faithful to her? What’s worse is that Sinclair has done this not only at the expense of her own dignity, but at the expense of others as well.
