One block south of the Gold and Silver Pawnshop where the television show, Pawn Stars, is filmed for the History Channel is the latest addition to dining in the downtown area, The Verdict’s Inn. Owned and operated by Jill Schneider, Maggie Cupp and Jo Bourgeois (Jill’s 80something mother), the legal-themed cafe features the yin and yang of menus – the Guilty (decadent and delicious) and the Not Guilty (healthy and tasty).
As for opening a new restaurant, “Cupp explained, “Jill’s (Schneider) cooking is amazing. After tasting her cooking, I said you need to open up a restaurant.”
“I had no interest in opening a restaurant,” Schneider said. “I just like to make hungry people full.”
But the three changed their mind, and decided to open in a café located close to a number of law offices. Bourgeois suggested the name The Verdict’s Inn and the Guilty/Not Guilty menu was created.
As part of the Not Guilty cuisine, The Verdict’s Inn specialty is its signature chopped salads. This is not your mother’s salad. Much like sushi or dim sum, the diner is given a custom order form to choose from over 40 fresh items including different types of lettuce, different cheeses, toppings, types of salad dressing, artichokes and avocado. Best of all, it is NOT just one from each category but mix and match to create a perfect salad, chopped so that all of ingredients blend together served in a bowl or wrap.
Also for the health-conscious are smoothies with mixers such as soy, almond milk, apple juice, pineapple juice, pomegranate, orange, green tea, milk-whole or non-fat with scoops of emergen-c, wheat germ, whey protein, or super greens and items such as strawberries, banana, mango, pineapple, honey, apples, blueberries, maple, date, carrot, fresh ginger or mandarin oranges.
Of course, there are plenty of Guilty selections for those who want to indulge like SWIM WITH DA FISHES which is Albacore tuna salad on fresh baked roll with mayo, lettuce, tomato on wheat or THE MAYOR created from the secret family recipe files of the honorable Oscar B. Goodman and Mayor Carolyn Goodman, a savory meatball sub sandwich, smothered in an authentic Italian marinara sauce and topped with melted provolone cheese on a hoagie roll…this needs no judge or jury.
Check out The Verdict’s Inn or someone might have to issue an arrest warrant.
