Recently, this reporter ventured into the thoroughly cushy chairs of Community Health Acupuncture Center in Ferndale located at 801 Livernois Street, Ferndale, Michigan (see http://CommunityAcuCenter.com ) for a free Nada Protocol acupuncture treatment. This was a new walk into the world of alternative medicine. While there, I received a new experience in this ancient yet fresh discipline of holistic health.
The Practictioners are Darlene Berger, MSAc, Carol Soborowski, MSOM, and my NADA Clinician, Mollie Platt MacAdam. The Center offers treatments on a sliding scale from $15 – $35 per treatment. They are dedicated to making acupuncture available to many people as possible in an affordable and social setting. For more information on this, please go to the Community Acupuncture Network’s website at //www.communityacupuncturenetwork.org.
My clinician was Mollie, and she was very attentive, personable, and definitely NOT scary for this needle nervous novice. After completing the paperwork, the next step was to choose a comfortable chair in a quiet, meditative room that is suffused with good vibrations. The procedure began with sanitizing the clinicians hands, the ears, and the breakdown of what was going to happen. At every step, and with the insertion of each needle, inquiries regarding pain and discomfort were done. This was followed by a thirty minute session to let the detoxification effect settle into my body.
Once the procedure was complete, Mollie returned to remove the needles and do aftercare. Periodically, another Practitioner, Darlene, would also offer chair side manner and monitoring, which made the experience very welcoming and zen like, no pun included. For someone who pales at the thought of ear piercing, the fact that no fear was involved in allowing ten needles to be inserted into the ears is a testimony to the professionalism and care of the staff and center’s environment.
The center offers treatment of in the areas of allergies, arthritis, asthma, colds and flu, depression, diabetes, digestive disorders, fatigue, fibromyalgia, headaches, immune system disorders, insomnia, menopause symptoms, sciatica, musculoskeletal disorders, acute and chronic pain, and others. On Saturday, August 27, 2011, the Center will be having a Grand Re-Opening Celebration. The Open House will take place from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm with no appointments necessary. Call (248) 246-7289 for additional information. This will be an opportunity for everyone interested to come and try out acupuncture in a safe, nonthreatening environment. Known for offering the monthly free introductory treatment, this will be yet another way for everyone to get to know acupuncture without feeling committment to continue. But the likelihood is that once it is tried, it will be continued as there really is no other treatment that offers the same feeling and effect like this one.
So go on and give it a try! Hopefully, your interest has been “pricked”!
