It’s the journey, not the destination…usually that statement is true, but when it comes to The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, it’s all about the destination. This luxurious retreat captures the essence of the majestic Rocky Mountains that surround the area and the region’s rich story adds an effortless mysticism to your stay. But even more important is how the property exudes rustic romance for couples while easily maintaining a very family friendly atmosphere.
But you may be wondering about Colorado in the summer- don’t worry that just because there’s no flurries in the air that you’ll be bored as summertime in Colorado is the perfect escape, especially for couples searching for an adventure to remember while reveling in Ritz-Carlton pampering.
This summer through September 4th, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a summer vacay of a lifetime with the all-new ‘Adventure Club’ package. This offering combines two signature features of the iconic mountain resort: The Ritz-Carlton Club Level access and unbridled outdoor adventures to compliment your stay. As we discover more about the destination, keep in mind the lore of Bachelor Gulch; as with any great sojourn, there is always a thriving backstory. This one originates from the Ute Indians and continues years later to the group of bachelors for whom the area is named (seven miners who arrived in the early 1900s to develop the land), to the famous Camp Hale nearby. With your expedition to The Ritz-Carlton, you’ll find that legends come to life, while adding exhilaration to your stay, your romance and the thrilling stories you’ll return home with…
The eighth floor of the resort is reserved for guests of the exclusive Club Level. This private and extremely luxe retreat is accessible via elevator-key only, and also hosts the exclusive lounge. Guests can delight in amazing culinary and beverage presentations throughout the day and enjoy the highest level of attention via the private concierge service provided. But along with this elite offering, included in your package is your choice of two half-day, mountain activities per night booked through Nova Guides. The outdoor company is Vail’s premier year-round outdoor recreation provider for over 25 years, specializing in creating amazing memories and once in a lifetime adventures. Their facilities are a breathtaking drive away located at the historic Camp Hale-the former WW2 training site for the 10th Mountain Division. Drew Fortner, Director of Sales and Marketing for Nova Guides, shared how the soldiers trained for three years in the terrain to prepare for overseas battles and treacherous terrain. Upon returning home after deployment to the Alps, many of them stayed in the area and became the pioneers of the American ski industry. As their tale unfolds, we discover that the soldiers fell in love with the area and today visitors can easily see why while creating their own love story.
The Nova Guide lodge on-site can also host receptions, events, and even teams building activities and guests regularly enjoy ATV tours, whitewater rafting and so much more. There is even a restaurant on property as well if you are interested in lunch and just taking in some beautiful mountain vistas. Drew laments that “especially for first time visitors to Colorado, the views can become the highlight of their vacation”. But what about a favorite choice for those sporty couples? Drew recommends the sunset jeep tour which includes gourmet treats to enjoy together. And for those wondering, yes you are in good company as famous sporty celebs visit often, including Anna Kournikova and Troy Aikman.
But what makes this summer activity package even more appealing is the compassionate nature the resort embodies. With the package purchase, $25 per night will benefit the resort’s community partner, SOS Outreach. The group’s mission is to “build character and self-esteem in youth through outdoor activities and the SOS curriculum”, which makes your vacation even more rewarding knowing that you’re allowing others to partake in America’s playground.
However, while you’re staying in this mountain paradise, you may have your own pooch along or a piece of your heart could be at home excitedly waiting for your return. If that’s the case then you can take advantage of the resident “Bachelor” on site to get a puppy fix. The property is known for being pup-friendly and is yet another way that the resort goes above and beyond to make guests feel at ease. If you discover you have any downtime, some unique features of the resort include tasty treats to enjoy for both you and your four-legged friend.
This summer, “Bachelor Brunch” is offered featuring dog friendly goodies and lawn activities on the Mountainside Terrace during the Sundays Under the Sun brunch from 11-2pm-a very recent addition. Spago, the Forbes Four-Star flagship restaurant of master chef Wolfgang Puck, does not miss a beat with the morning crowd either as Executive Chef Mark Ferguson creates imaginative and “yummy” dishes that you will not find just anywhere. This is a must-try and a great way to end your stay before returning home.
An active Colorado couple, Amy and Ryan from Denver, shared why they ventured into the mountains for a weekend getaway and took part in the ATV experience (along with massages and dinner of course!). She says how they wanted a trip where they could “do something adventurous together and really experience the Colorado outdoors”. So even locals can benefit from living so close to such an awe inspiring retreat, while out-of-towners can find relief from the heat and everyday stresses too; whatever your reason is to jaunt up to Bachelor Gulch, you will not be disappointed in the destination as you create your very own summer adventure.
