Lots of recent news hit on Wednesday about The Hunger Games. First, director Gary Ross (Pleasantville) said that the movie will mostly be from Katniss’ point of view, which is expected. However, he also broke some fun news that there will also be scenes that we see from television screens.
For those who don’t know, The Hunger Games is about a dystopian post-apocalyptic future where the U.S. has been destroyed and replaced by districts. The districts are ran by a singular government and, in response to a revolution from the past, they hold the Hunger Games every year.
In the games, two young children are randomly chosen to take part in the televised competition, a fight to the death until only one survives. The government believes that the event proves they control all the citizens. The hero is Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and the fact that, at points in the movie, we will see it as the citizens see it is a really fun choice for the filmmakers.
The second news of the day came in the form of The Hunger Games website, thecapitol.pn. I wrote on Monday how the site was up but only showed a blurry image. The site works now and, when you enter, allows you to register through your Facebook or Twitter account. Once you register, it assigns you to a district.
I registered and ended up in District 8: Transportation. I have no idea what will happen next but it says it is processing my application. It says I can expedite the process, but I’m afraid it will post to my Facebook account, which I would prefer it not do. I’ll write more when I get more information.
