A viral marketing website for The Hunger Games movie has gone live, though much of it still remains a mystery.
The site TheCapitol.pn first appeared following Sunday night’s release of The Hunger Games teaser-trailer, along with the Twitter hashtag #WhatsMyDistrict. Initially, the site appeared pixelated — but the image cleared up over the last two days, until becoming a clear image today. Now, when you visit the site and click the image of the Capitol logo, you’re taken into a site.
Though the content is still limited, you can connect either through Facebook or Twitter to be assigned a district identification. The site also includes a scrolling news ticker from the Capitol, a “district processing queue,” a countdown to the 74th Hunger Games (timed, not coincidentally, with the release of The Hunger Games movie), and other Capitol-related data. (See more of what the site details look like in this slideshow.)
The full extent of what this viral marketing site will contain is still unknown — but as Hypable uncovered, Lionsgate also seems to have created custom Twitter, Facebook and URLs for each of the 12 districts.
As fans of The Hunger Games know, the books take place in a future version of the U.S. known as Panem. Within Panem, there is the Capitol and 12 districts that the Capitol oversees.
