The direct yet contradictory relationship between the Holy Bible of Christianity and the Vedas of Hinduism, part forty-one.
“The Upanishads of Hinduism, at least according to some scholars, ARE the esoteric doctrines associated with the Rig, Sama, Yajur, and Atharva Vedas of Hinduism,” explained Dr. D. James, President and teacher of The Lay School in Clinton, Tennessee, as he continued his presentation before The Lay School faculty on the direct yet contradictory relationship between the Holy Bible of Christianity and the Vedas of Hinduism. “In fact, the very first reference from the Upanishads that we have to look at confirms this very assertion.
In the author’s section entitled, ‘MEANING OF THE WORD UPANISHAD” we find a list of four possible meanings of the word ‘upanishad’, with the esoteric nature of the Upanishads as a whole topping his list:
‘Thus we find the word upanishad used in the Upanishads themselves in the following meanings:
1. Secret or esoteric explanation, whether true or false.’
[The Upanishads, p115 (edit mode)]
In the Aitareya- Âranyaka, Third Âranyaka, Second Adhyâya, Sixth Khanda, P489 (edit mode) we find instruction concerning the revealing of these secret doctrines to any who is not a ‘pupil’ in residence under a teacher for a period of not less than one year.
9 Let no one tell these Samhitâs (Ait. Âr. III, 1-III, 2) to one who is not a resident pupil, who has not been with his teacher at least one year, and who is not himself to become an instructor 1. Thus say the teachers, yea, thus say the teachers. [REFERENCE: Reveal only to the initiated. Esoteric. ***]
The more one considers the meaning and intent of the idea of initiation into the esoteric teachings of any religion, the more questions as to why should arise. If the purpose of religious teachings are to explain how a person may get to heaven, achieve Brahman or nirvana, and/or expiate (atone for) sin, then why would these doctrines need to be transmitted in secret to only the initiated? There is an extremely fine line between this idea of initiation and the fact that anyone interested in any particular religion needs to be instructed in that religion, and especially in any secret doctrines. But it is still a little too early to begin to assimilate all of this information into some meaningful explanation, interpretation, and understanding.”
