Tom Hardy is currently filming The Dark Knight Rises as the character of Bane. Hardy knows that a lot of hardcore comic book fans aren’t necessarily pleased that he was chosen simply due to the fact that Bane is naturally known as this huge, hulking character. Criticism has come his way in droves and let’s just say that Hardy takes it all very personally.
Hardy joked recently that he does “read comments and I cry. I can’t cry for everybody.” Still, he takes the negativity and degrading comments about his character to heart even though his friends often tell him merely to avoid such things.
He recently told CineMovie that the fans of Batman have been wanting this big 400-pound guy to come out and portray Bane much like he is in the comic books. Hardy has increased his body mass and muscle for The Dark Knight Rises, but he’s still only at his heaviest of 190 pounds.

When it all comes down to it though, Hardy deals with the criticism by “switching off.” He says that fans will eventually just have to put their faith into him, the film, and director Christopher Nolan.
“Just trust me,” Hardy says. “I trust Nolan.”
