NEWS from the liberterrain…
Aside from the well-known Ron Paul and (possibly?) Rick Perry, the Houston Chronicle managed to find 13 Texans officially ready to take Barack Obama’s White House job away from him in 2012, and four of them call the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex home.
Willie Felix Carter of Ft. Worth claims God told him to run for president. He may be unaware of other presidential candidates harking to the same Call (see New York Magazine article “God Caught Backing Multiple GOP Candidates for President”) or that various sources are reporting that Texas Republican Governor Rick Perry may also be responding to God’s wishes, but Carter has always run as a Democrat.
John “Green” Ferguson has a lock on the Eco-Green Party’s nomination since he’s the only member.
Among the campaign promises based on his “thoroughly green platform,” Ferguson would make nationwide recycling for all waste mandatory and ban all fossil fuels within five years.
His Chronicle bio notes that Ferguson moved to a 20-acre cattle ranch in Azle after “tiring of the dirt and dust” of his childhood home in Arizona, proving that not all environmentalists love all environments.
However, after profiling most of the other prospective presidential contenders the Chronicle apparently ran out of column-inches. They mentioned Scott Andrew Cain of Garland and Frisco’s Harold C. Heard Jr. only in passing, at the end of the article.
But two other candidates not living in the environs of North Texas, both coincidentally named Roger, may be of more interest to Libertarians.
Roger V. Gary of San Antonio and R. Lee Wrights of Burnet (the R stands for Roger) are both declared candidates for the Libertarian Party’s nomination for President.
Gary clearly and concisely presents the libertarian position on the Issues page of his website on such topics as civil liberties, economics, education, health care and foreign policy.
His Facebook page features backers and breaking news.
A primary focus for R. Lee Wrights is foreign policy. “Stop all war” is prominently featured on his campaign logo and candidacy announcement video.
Wrights, being an insightful writer and publisher of the online magazine Liberty For All unsurprisingly packs his candidate’s Facebook page with libertarian theory, opinions, policy positions, and general political banter.
(full disclosure: The Dallas Libertarian Examiner has been a Contributing Editor under the Loose Cannon marquee on Wrights’ Liberty For All publication for many years.)
