Everyone wants to save a little money. Starting at midnight on Friday, Aug. 5 through Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, St. Louis, Mo. will be offering a tax free shopping day. This is the weekend to stock up on all of your craft supplies and back to school needs.
A lot of families that have children going back to school have to cut back on their personal spending in order to be able to buy their kids school supplies. Some families have multiple children, so that puts even more of a strain on the already stretched budget. Families are looking for the best deals and sales. The tax free shopping days are an added bonus to the many St. Louis area store sales, such as Walmart, Target and many more, that offer their school supplies at a huge discount this time of year.
Some items in the state of Missouri, will be exempt from “Tax Free Shopping” such as clothing and shoes over $100 per item and computer purchases over $3500 or software purchases more than $350. The basic to school supplies exceeding $50 per purchase will also be exempt. This is a great opportunity to stock up all of your school or craft supplies and save big.
All St. Louis counties are participating in the tax free shopping weekend and are offering back to school discounts on their school supplies. To save even more money check to see if there are any city and local taxes. Although this is a state wide tax free shopping day, some localities will still be charging local taxes. Some of these cities in the St. Louis area that will be charging local taxes include:
- Des Peres
- Richmond Heights
- University City
Taking advantage of the tax free shopping weekend in St. Louis, with the already low prices on school supplies and craft items such as glue, scissors, crayons, paints and much more, will save families, teachers and daycare providers a lot money on their kids back to school items and craft supplies.
