This is the story of Tajoun, a 13-year-old boy, and his 2-year-old dog Delsea, a blue brindle pit bull. This story has three parts: the loss Tajoun and his dog have endured; the love they have for each other; and their hope for a brighter future.
Last November, Tajoun’s father was lost to cancer. This past July, he lost his mother to a heart attack. Tajoun, along with his three siblings, were forced to move into their grandmother and aunt’s small, three-bedroom apartment. Unfortunately, Delsea couldn’t move in with him, so a kind neighbor from his previous home agreed to watch the dog in the meantime. Tajoun walked to his old house very early every morning (at 5 a.m.!) to walk Delsea and spend time with him.
He didn’t miss a single day for two months.
But Tajoun’s losing streak continued, and the landlord told his former neighbor that Delsea had to go. Luckily, the Cumberland County SPCA (CCSPCA) worked very hard to find a place for Delsea so he didn’t end up in a shelter, and then the good people of Lilo’s Promise Animal Rescue agreed to take him in.
The love Tajoun and his dog have for one another is very clear. Just look at the main picture for this article, showing them together. According to this article, Delsea is friendly with children (he’s been living with them his entire life), and gets along with other dogs and cats. The dog knows commands such as “sit,” “lie down,” and “give paw.” Delsea is also protective of his family if he feels they’re in danger.
According to Tajoun’s comments in this article, Delsea makes him feel safe, and he’s devastated at the concept of losing Delsea for good to a new home. But he understands his predicament and just hopes his dog ends up with great people who offer her a big yard to run around in and a couch to relax on afterward.
Along with helping to find a new forever home for Delsea, CCPSCA is also concerned about the school supplies Tajoun’s family needs. If you can make a donation for these children, items can be dropped off(or gift cards mailed – clearly marked Tajoun and Delsea) at the shelter at 1244 N. Delsea Drive, Vineland NJ 08360.

Lilo’s Promise and the CCSPCA will work together, once Delsea has been adopted, to update Tajoun on the dog’s progress. They will hopefully allow visits between Tajoun and Delsea as well. After all, Tajoun was his best buddy.

If you can’t take Delsea into your home, please share his story. After losing his parents and then having to give up his dog, the only thing Tajoun hopes for is a good home for his baby.
