The residents in Sharon Hill took the safety of their neighborhood seriously over the last two months. Neighbors took the time to pass this simple warning to each other “be careful going into your house at night alone”. This all began one evening in June as a resident of Sharon Hill heard an older gentlemen yell “help, he is going to kill me”. This good Samaritan went outside and apparently scared off an armed robber carrying a sawed off shot gun. The police were called and a report made, now it appears a suspect has been apprehended.
20-year-old Lamar Gary has been apprehended and has confessed to a number of armed robberies in Sharon Hill, Collingdale, and Darby Township spanning from May until his arrest June 21st in Ridley Township for possession of concealed firearms.
Gary allegedly confessed to six robberies in Collingdale, three robberies in Sharon Hill, one in Darby Township as well as a few unreported crimes: one robbery in Folcroft and two in Chester.
Citing his recent unemployment status as a motivating factor behind his actions, Gary stated when he needed money it was easier to just go out and take it from unsuspecting pedestrians.
For now, residents are slightly relieved yet remain cautious.
