Stromkirk Noble is an aggressively priced red vampire rare featured in Magic: The Gathering’s Innistrad set. Stromkirk Noble was previewed today on the official Magic: The Gathering site by Michael Flores.
Creature – Vampire Rare
Stromkirk Noble can’t be blocked by Humans.
Whenever Stromkirk Noble deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
With Humans being a major tribe in Innistrad, Stromkirk’s evasive powers have merit when trying to avoid unturned werewolves and other villagers and clerics of the land.
Even if your opponent isn’t running any humans at all, when Stromkirk Noble hits the table on turn 1 and begins to feed, this small aggro creature can become a rather big problem.
You’ll have the resources to back up your vampire assault as well, since Stromkirk Noble can just keep biting and biting once it’s active, backed up by removal spells and other fast creatures. If you’re looking to hit the table running with an aggressive red strategy, Stromkirk Noble seems like a great place to start.
In Limited, there are a slew of humans occupying Innistrad design space, so it’s likely that Stromkirk’s protection will be useful. It is a little questionable as first pick real estate, but there are likely a number of vampire themed cards in Innistrad that make snagging Stromkirk early a useful choice.
In Commander Stromkirk Noble is likely a backseat choice in all but the most dedicated vampire decks, as if he ever becomes a threat he is not very difficult to remove and doesn’t come with any technical abilities to facilitate a solid Commander strategy.
Stromkirk Noble has a lot of potential to show up in an aggressive red build (possibly R/B) when Innistrad rolls out to Magic: The Gathering tables everywhere later this month.
