Strikeforce airs live on Showtime sports, tonight at 10:00 pm ET from the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago, IL. Strikeforce presents a solid fight card headlined by MMA royalty colliding in the main event. Dan ‘Hollywood’ Henderson will do his best to add a third straight defeat to the once invincible Fedor ‘The Last Emperor’ Emelianenko. On the flip side of the main event The Last Emperor desperately needs to impose his game plan and avoid being the third straight victory for Henderson.
Fedor lost his last two Strikeforce contests in decisive fashion, falling to former UFC veteran and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ace Fabricio Werdum in a nasty triangle arm-bar submission followed by a pummeling at the hands of Antonio “Big Foot” Silva, which resulted in a referee stoppage in the second round. Fedor simply needs to get a win. A victory allows Fedor to begin his ascent back up the ladder to top dog status, where many MMA diehards feel he belongs. Again on the flip side are the many fans and critics that feel Fedor’s time has come and gone and he is no longer the juggernaut that easily dismantled heavyweights at will, during his legendary days when he ruled the Japanese based Pride Fighting Championship. In the present Fedor shows glimpses of his former self but he will need to dial into that level of greatness he once possessed to have a chance of dismantling the current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Henderson.
Dan Henderson is riding two straight wins, knocking out Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante via strikes in the third round to win the Strikeforce light heavyweight championship and
Renato ‘Babalu” Sobral at 1:53 of the first round. Henderson at age 40 is showing no sign of slowing down and is seeing a higher level of success at the latter part of his career than his opponent this evening.
Main Event: Fedor vs. Henderson
Pick: Dan Henderson wins via knockout in the second round.
Emelianenko and his former invincibility is no longer, I am going against the masses and my fellow Fight Sports Examiner partner Mr. Cella and giving the nod to Henderson and his big right hand.
Enjoy the fights!
