Soderbergh has spoken about his desire to ground “Contagion” in a sense of the plausible and possible. In speaking with the New York Times, Soderbergh said:
“It’s an ultrarealistic film about a pandemic, and that’s the key phrase. We were looking for something that was unsettling because of the banality of the transmission. In a weird way, the less you trump it up, the more unsettling it becomes.”
In keeping with the more realistic approach, “Contagion” promises a large number of fatalities, possible even members its A-list cast. So for Soderbergh fans interested in what twists “Contagion might take, the early release of so many photos and movie clips provides some tantalizing hints – who’s in danger from the disease, who’s working to stop its spread, and who may not make it to the end credits.
Who do you think survives?
“Contagion” will be released to movie theaters on Sept. 9, 2011.
Pittsburgh movie-goers can catch the film – if not the virus – at the AMC Loews Waterfront 22, with tickets available for online purchase at Fandango, as well as SouthSide Works Cinema and Waterworks Cinema 10.
