Ready for another new brewery? Elevation 66 opens on Thursday in El Cerrito (see below). In beer bar news, about a dozen people have already told me Handles in Pleasanton is off to a great start. Also, Creek Monkey Tap House in Martinez released its first house beer on Saturday, and it was gone by my visit on Monday. Drink up, Bay Area!

Beer pop quiz: who is John Martin? If you don’t know the answer, it’s about time you learned. Beer Revolution can help Wednesday at 6pm with its, um, “John Martin 4-Way.” Don’t get excited – the Martin family is involved in four breweries. Actually, get excited anyway, because this will be a tap takeover of massive proportions. Expect about 45 (!) beers from local favorites Triple Rock, Drake’s, and Jupiter plus Seattle’s own Big Time Brewing. [Disclaimer: I work at Beer Revolution, but trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.]
Thursday, September 1
The long-awaited Elevation 66 Brewing Company in El Cerrito opens Thursday at 11:30am. They’ll have locally-sourced pub fare and, of course, beer. Want to peek at the menu? Here it is.
The One Fermented Evening series of beer dinners returns Thursday at 7pm with a five-course meal paired with New Belgium beers. No promises, but there might be some Transatlantique Kriek. It’s $40, and you can scope out the whole menu here. Call (510) 903-3771 to see if there are still tickets available.
It’s Thursday, so Ale Industries is throwing an open mic in Concord. Last week there were ridiculous specials like $5 growler fills. It starts at 3pm and runs until 9.
Friday, September 2
Long weekend! Woo hoo! Might as well start it off with First Friday at Drake’s. This month’s party benefits the San Leandro Scholarship Foundation and offers BBQ. Details are here. Also check out this video from August’s First Friday. I wasn’t even there, but I still recognized at least half a dozen people. How about you?
Saturday and Sunday
It’s a holiday weekend, and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot going on. It’s also Burning Man, so now might be a good time for a field trip to bars that are usually full of hip youngsters. Mission pub crawl, anyone?
