Since Hollywood is on a remake kick, it’s not surprising that the small screen would follow in the footsteps of their silver screen counterparts. Hawaii Five-O, Charlie’s Angels, Dallas, and even Bewitched have come back (or will be back soon). Even Battlestar Galactica and the Bionic Woman made a comeback. So why not one of TV’s most enduring series— Star Trek?
That’s right Star Trek may be the next classic show to get a reboot. However fans of the recent J.J. Abrams may be disappointed to learn that the proposed reboot isn’t Kirk and crew, like the 2009 movie, but a new version to take place after Star Trek: Voyager.
David Foster, one of the writer/producers who reworked Galactica has plans to do the same for Trek. The plan is to keep the show within the established timeframe, returning Star Trek to its original series roots…without disregarding the other series and movies.
According to Foster, “the Ferengi have discovered a vast new resource that has propelled them towards instant riches and power beyond anything they have experienced. The new Trek will feature a much younger cast than in previous versions and include Trek’s staple aliens such as the Vulcans, Klingons, Romulans, Andorians and Trill.
So when will the show hit the small screen? Truth is, Foster hasn’t even pitched the show yet. Foster hopes to pitch the show to CBS soon. “While all of the feedback has been positive and we continue to make great progress and garner great support from key individuals,” Foster said, he’s yet to pitch the idea to the top brass at CBS.
Trekkers to Foster— What are you waiting for?
