England vs India: England tour all but over for injured

England vs India: England tour all but over for injured NEW DELHI: Team India’s young Test opener Shubman Gill is in danger of missing out on the England Test series with an injury. The 21-year-old has sustained an injury to either his calf or hamstring during the World Test Championship final against New Zealand recently, TOI has learnt.
Gill will stay back in England to get treatment.
“Shubman is very upset right now. The injury looks bad. BCCI is contacting the best professionals to get Shubman treated in England. While the team management wishes that he recovers in time for the series, it looks unrealistic. It needs to be seen if he needs a surgery,” a source close to the team management told TOI.
India play the first of the five Tests against England in Nottingham from August 4 while the Test series ends on September 14.
While the squad has Abhimanyu Easwaran as a reserve opener in England, the team management has other options available with Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul in the ranks.
However, the team management is apparently keen on playing Rahul in the middle-order.
“Rahul’s game against the new ball has not been up to the mark over the last year. He could be a very good option down the order.
The team management could try Hanuma Vihari as an opener if Mayank doesn’t perform as per expectations.
“Vihari has shown he has the ability to play out the new ball,” the source said.
