Regis Prograis warns Tank Davis: ‘I will knock you out’

By Eric Flaherty: Regis Prograis tore into Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis following his eleventh round TKO win over WBA ‘regular’ light welterweight champion Mario Barrios last Saturday night.

The former WBA 140-lb champion Prograis (26-1, 22 KOs) warned Tank (25-0, 24 KOs) to “never” mention his name again because he’ll “smash” him in the mouth if he does.

Prograis added that Tank Davis’ promoters Floyd Mayweather Jr and Leonard Ellerbe would never let him take the fight, which is the same thing that Teofimo Lopez Sr. said.

Normally, you would dismiss what Prograis is saying about Mayweather Promotions not ever allowing Gervonta to fight him as hyperbole, but in this case, it’s valid.

At the Davis-Barrios post-fight press conference last Saturday, Mayweather shockingly revealed that Tank will only be fighting “in-house” fights against Mayweather Promotions and PBC fighters and that they don’t want to help make another “company great” by allowing Tank to fight one of their guys.

Mayweather’s comments:

“We keep everything in-house, Mayweather Promotions, PBC, we’re all one family,” said Mayweather when asked what direction Gervonta will go in for his next fight.

“We’re not going to go make another company great. We [Mayweather Promotions and PBC] have plenty of other fighters at 140, 135, and 130 that we’re [Tank Davis] going to continue to fight.”

What Mayweather Jr is saying is that Tank Davis will effectively be sectioned off from the other top fighters from other promotional companies.

It’s kind of like how there used to be two football leagues in the U.S, the AFL and the NFL. The two were separate until merging in 1966.

But in the case of Tank Davis, Mayweather seems to have no interest in allowing him to fight top guys under a different promotional banner.

By keeping Tank away from fighting the top fighters that are with different promoters, it increases the chances that he’ll keep winning for a long time.

In theory, Tank could finish his career with an unbeaten record if he’s only fighting the Mayweather Promotions and PBC stable fighters.

Obviously, Regis Prograis is out of luck for a fight against Tank Davis, as is Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, and the other top guys in the other weight classes.

Prograis warns Tank Davis

“I saw the same fight, good fight, Tank, solid opponent, but he ain’t me,” said Regis Prograis on social media reacting to Gervonta Davis’ win over Barrios last Saturday night.

“Don’t you ever say my name again because I guarantee I’ll smash your mouth, and I guarantee Floyd [Mayweather Jr], Leonard Ellerbe, and none of them is going to let you close to me. So don’t say my name ever again because I will knock you f*** out, little boy,” said Prograis.

“He fought his a** off; he was in a tough fight, his first one,” said Adrien Broner to Fighthub TV on Tank Davis’ win over Barrios.

As many problems that Tank Davis had against Barrios, Mayweather Promotions likely wouldn’t allow him to fight Prograis even if the two were under the same promotional banner.

Tank is too small and flawed at 140 for him to be put in with a fighter as talented as Prograis, and it appears that Mayweather sees this.

If Prograis was another Barrios or Yuriorkis Gamboa type of fighter, he might have a chance to fight against Tank Davis if he had a world title.

Teofimo Sr says Tank will “NEVER” fight us

“Bro, this guy is righting for regular belts. We [Teofimo Lopez] have got the main belts,” said Teofimo Lopez Sr. to Fighthype in reacting to Gervonta’s win over WBA secondary 140-lb champion Mario Barrios.

“Floyd Mayweather and the TMT company and all these mother f**** have got to stop that s*** and stop lying to the public about being top dogs when we got the real belts, mother f****.

“We’ll [Teofimo] knock this mother f**** [Tank Davis] out in less than four rounds, bro. Listen, there’s a game gimmick to this boxing s***, and I know all about it.

“That f**** uppercut that he [Gervonta] throws, he’s never going to catch my son with that s***. We got a style called ‘The Pyramid’ where we can touch you, but you can’t touch us.

“That’s what I got to say, and Tank is dead meat to us. They know it. They’re never going to fight us, bro. ‘Oh, no, Tank needs another fight before we fight Lopez.’ Get the f*** out of here, bro,” said Teofimo Sr about Davis.

The comment Mayweather Jr made on Saturday night about Gervonta only fighting in-house guys at Mayweather Promotions, and PBC would preclude the possibility of Prograis getting a fight against Tank.
