July 29, 30, and 31st, the dates of the 29th Annual Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning, are fast approaching. Photographers, whether professional, semi-pro, young hobbyist, independent contractor, or retired freelancer, have a special, upcoming window of opportunity. Photographers, who are interested in photographing the balloon festival, are being given unusual access during a pre-festival media launch.
Free, pre-Festival media launch for all photographers
The 29th Annual Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning is extending a unique invitation to freelance and amateur photographers as well as entire photography clubs. Photographers, without official press credentials and specific assignment letters from their editors, are invited to attend a scheduled pre-Festival media launch FREE of charge on Friday, July 29 at 6:30 a.m.
Note that photographic images taken at this media launch may not be used commercially, but the images are permitted to be used for editorial purposes. Best of all, this early morning, pre-Festival, photographic media launch is provided free to all photographers, and no credentials or sign up are needed.
Parking is an important issue for equipment-laden photographers. Special arrangements have been made for parking related to the pre-Festival media launch. Parking is available at the Solberg Airport entrance located at Forty Oaks Road and Solberg Road.
Please, note that following the media launch, a ticket purchase is required for admission into the Festival, with parking available in the main lots all 3 days or at Raritan Valley Community College on Saturday and Sunday.
Advance ticket purchases to the 29th Annual Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning do provide a discount. From July 2 to July 28 at midnight, 33% off tickets priced at $20 are available. One day, adult general admission tickets purchased on July 29, 30, and 31st, the dates of the Balloon Festival, are the full $30 price. Children under 3 can attend the balloon festival for free. Children’s tickets for ages 4 to 12 are $10 until July 28th and $15 at the festival.
Festival tickets are available by calling 1-800-HOT-AIR9 or through links provided on the Balloon Festival’s web site, where tickets can be printed on a home computer or mailed to the purchaser. Additionally, tickets can be purchased at any Quick Chek store location. While supplies last, Quick Chek stores are offering a $20 coupon booklet with the purchase of two tickets.
The 29th Annual Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning is held at Solberg Airport at 39 Thor Solberg Road in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. Solberg Airport’s convenient, Hunterdon County location is only 28 miles from Trenton and centrally located 42 miles from New York City and 54 miles from Philadelphia. Specific directions and a festival map are available. Onsite parking will be offered for $5 at Solberg Airport. Additionally, from noon on Saturday and Sunday, the festival runs a free shuttle bus from nearby Raritan Valley Community College located at 118 Lamington Road, Branchburg, NJ.

Following the Pre-Festival Media Launch, with your tickets in hand, excitement awaits. The festival has exhibits, food stands, concerts, wellness classes and presentations, a 5K run, Red Bull Air Force Wingsuit demonstrations, the Cannon Lady of the Smith Family of Human Cannonballs shot out a 27 foot barrel, truck-mounted cannon, an evening Balloon Glow, and more.
Only if wind and weather permit, mass ascensions of the festival’s hot air balloons occur twice daily at 6:30 am & 6:30 pm.
