I just completed a Social Media Tour of sorts this past week. I traveled around the Chicago area giving presentations on Social Media Marketing and how to work it for business.
The business owners attending the seminars were eager to learn as much as they could about Social Media Marketing and are interested in utilizing this powerful marketing tool to leverage their businesses. They know they must use this marketing strategy to further their marketing campaign and stay competitive in their industries.
I can’t help but compare it to our Social Media Marketing presentations in the past. Just a year ago we were asked to speak to all the Insurance Agents in the Chicago area associated with a large national insurance company. Just one short year ago the presentation I gave was all focused on what Social Media even was and attempting to convince these Agents that they needed to use this tool for a successful marketing campaign.
Most of these business owners were not open to even knowing what Social Media was let alone how to use it for marketing.
Rewind 2 to 3 years before this and we were telling business owners about this new marketing tool – Social Media, most had never even heard of some of the Social Networks or were under the impression that it was something for kids to do online.
It is hard to believe that in a few short years Social Media Marketing has become a must in a marketing campaign. I have been watching the industry evolve over the last few years and it has gone from this little known marketing tool to an absolute must in any successful marketing campaign. Just in the last 8 months it has exploded on the scene, 70% of Small Businesses in America are marketing on the Social Networks. (PR Daily)
Most large companies are now hiring positions that just handle Social Media for the business. Other seminar services and marketing companies are conducting full courses on how to use Social Media for Business and Marketing and colleges and universities have added continuing education courses on Social Media for Business. I have even spoken to a few college representatives who are in talks to add Social Media to their Marketing Degree programs. Top it off with every marketing firm and website design company adding Social Media Marketing to their packages and you can see how real this marketing really is at this time.
We Marketers and Social Media Marketers no longer need to explain what it is; we are now instructing people in how to use it.
No longer are we convincing business owners to use Social Media, we are speaking on how to use it right.
Business owners now realize that Social Media is here to stay and it is where they need to market right now in order to stay competitive and have a successful marketing. I can’t help but wonder what we will be presenting next year…..
