After seven years of hosting “So You Think You Can Dance” and successfully delivering quick-witted humor, Cat Deeley has secured a nomination in the Emmy cateogry of Oustanding Reality Competition Host. (Granted, this category is still fairly new.)
So what was one of the first things Deeley did after finding out the good news? As it turned out, it involved having a rather hilarious conversation with Fox boss Mike Darnell:
“Mike Darnell, my boss, called me this morning at 5:45. He’s like, ‘Oh my goodness, this is amazing’ and we’re normally really cheeky to each other and slightly offensive in a really jokey way … I’m like, ‘I can’t [take] this from you, can you please stop being so nice, I just can’t handle it.’
“And he said, ‘It only took you seven years. What were you waiting for?’ “
Guest judge (and “Modern Family” star) Jesse Tyler Ferguson campaigned heavily for Cat on the show Wednesday night, and Nigel Lythgoe followed up the announcement of the show’s many nominations with this tweet:
“Wow. 10 Emmy nominations for #IDOLand for the first time 8 nominations for #SYTYCD. you can guess who’s a happy guy this morning.”
Are you happy for the show, and for Cat?
