Whenever I come across family-friendly offers, especially when they’re FREE, I like to pass them along. No matter where in the country you live, there is bound to be a venue participating in Museum Day, an annual event hosted by Smithsonian Magazine on Saturday, September 24. “Here’s an opportunity for you to go out with your child, spouse or friend and experience a cultural event for free,” said Rosie Walker, an associate publisher at Smithsonian magazine which is organizing the event.
This year’s event features more than a thousand institutions across America waiving their admission to let families see their exhibits for FREE. Venues run the gamut from world renowned institutions to cultural collections and children’s museums.
The Museum Day Ticket is good for two people per household or valid email address and must be printed in advance. If you go to Museum Day with more than one guest, your other guests will have to pay full admission. For the Detroit-Metro region the following institutions have agreed to join the effort to help consumers experience their local museums and cultural venues:
· Matthaei Botanical Gardens
· Meadow Brook Hall and Gardens
· Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit
· University of Michigan Museum of Art
· Detroit Children’s Museum
· Detroit Science Center
Fill out the form on the ticket information page to receive instruction emailed to you on how to download your ticket. Ticket must be presented for free general admission to one venue and is good for two people. Not valid for special exhibits, parking, IMAX film screenings or for use with any other offers. If museum reaches capacity, museum has right to limit the number of guests until space becomes available.
