Arriving home from an extensive tour of India, it feels great to be back home on the gulf coast. Besides exploring ancient palaces like the Taj Mahal and enjoying the regions exotic spicy cuisine , I was exposed to natural ayurvedic skin care. Ayurveda is an ancient east indian alternative medical approach . Ayurvedic practices dates back to the first millennium BCE. According to dermatologist , doctor Priya Singh, its methods is to help balance the body and mind for optimal function. I learned three ayurvedic methods for beautiful skin. All the anti-age ingredients can be found in health food stores or places where fresh herbs are sold.
The first method includes an herb called Sandal wood. Its properties is known for detoxifying and increasing circulation to the skin.
Mix 5 teaspoons of sandalwood , 14 teaspoon of turmeric, 2 teaspoons of almond oil to about a half a cup of water or rose water. Spread the thick paste using gentle circular motions. leave the paste on for at least 1 hour. Longer if you have the time. then rinse with lukewarm water.
The second method uses Rose water (Rosa Canina) as a tea. Rose water helps reduce sun damage and purifies the skin.
Bring 2 to 3 cups of rose water to a boil, add 12 teaspoon of whole cumin seeds,12 teaspoon of whole coriander seeds and 12 teaspoons of whole fennel seeds. Let it brew for 15 minutes. Sip this tea at least twice a week or daily.
The third method is massage therapy. Heat a 12 cup of coconut oil and 12 cup of vitamin e oil to a warm temperature. Then firmly massage the oil on the whole body in circular motions from the scalp to the feet. Massage with this oil at least once a week.
A bonus method is derived from another popular ancient indian practice called yoga. One must find a silent area and concentrate your existence to a peaceful area. For example, the top of the Kilimanjaro mountains would be most ideal. Then, slowly inhale and exhale for 15 minutes. This method should be done everyday if possible. Especially after stressful days.
