Charismatic Shaun White is known world-wide for what he can do on a board. It doesn’t matter if it’s a snowboard or a skateboard – this is an individual who is fabulous on both.
White will add one more thing to his resume this coming ski season – halfpipe designer. As a result of a recent partnership the two-time Olympic gold medalist snowboarder will work closely with Northstar-at-Tahoe ski resort to design a new 22-foot halfpipe that will be open during the 2011-2012 winter season for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts to enjoy.
Located in North Lake Tahoe, Northstar-at-Tahoe will see plenty of White in the upcoming season. Northstar will serve as White’s primary training resort.
Vail Resorts, Inc. recently announced a worldwide multi-year partnership agreement with White, a professional snowboarder and skateboarder. White will represent all six of Vail Resorts, which include Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado, and Heavenly and Northstar.
Known affectionately as “The Flying Tomato” for his amazing acrobatic skills on a snowboard and his flaming red hair, White is excited about his role with Northstar.
“This feels like a homecoming because I have spent so much time riding at most of Vail Resorts’ mountains,” White said. “With Northstar as my home mountain, I now have the ideal place to train and continue to grow as an athlete. I am looking forward to all the possibilities this partnership brings.”
As part of the launch of the new relationship, Vail Resorts will donate $5 for each Epic season pass sold to White’s chosen charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In addition, White will be designing a limited edition Epic season pass, which will be available to Epic season passholders this fall through a Facebook promotion.
The 24-year-old put on a great show recently in the X Games Skateboard Vert, winning another gold medal, his combined 20th in X Games snowboarding and skateboarding. He also has a couple of Olympic gold medals.
The signing of a big name in the snow industry is nothing new for Vail Resorts. In 2009, the ski conglomerate announced a four-year sponsorship deal with skier Lindsey Vonn, who then made Vail her home ski resort.
