Shakespeare on the Square returns to Market Square Mall in Knoxville, Tennessee for 2011. The city is just a short drive from Nashville or Chattanooga. Visitors and locals alike can appreciate the free performances of one of the world’s best known playwrights. Market Square Mall in downtown Knoxville is popular for hosting most of the many events and festivals that the City of Knoxville is famous for having.
Shakespeare on the Square in Knoxville is presented by the Tennessee Stage Company. Multiple performances of two different plays are being offered for 2011. The Comedy of Errors and Othello are being performed.
There is no charge for the plays but a $5 per person donation is suggested. Seating in Market Square Mall in Knoxville is limited. Those wishing to see a play are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Parking is free in downtown parking garages on weekends from Friday after 6:00 pm through Saturday and Sunday.

The Comedy of Errors
August 5, 7, 11, 13
This play is a comedy involving two sets twins that also have the same names. It is one of the earlier works of Shakespeare and is considered to be one of his most humorous works.
August 4, 6, 12, 14
This dramatic play is set in wartime Italy. It involves jealousy, anger and murder by an outsider who feels unaccepted because he is different. Othello is also considered to be one of Shakespeare’s finest works.
Although the plays begin at 7:00 pm visitors should plan to arrive early. Market Square Mall in Knoxville has several restaurants and interesting shops. Couples and families can enjoy dinner and then stay for the performances.
